Top selling writer, 1880's, to document and write in the dialect of the Appalachian Folk. 

 Wrote under the pen names of R. Emmet Cembry and Charles Eggbert Craddock. Publishers received her writings, 1874-1885, addressed from a M.N. Murfree. By 1885 her identity was revealed to be a female not the male writer the publishers assumed.
